Cash for Clunkers Begins Even Tea Baggers Silent!

Where are the Tea Baggers? Why aren't they picketing and throwing Lipton baggies at Congressmen? Could it be because they're planning to get a new car?

Congress has passed the Cash For Clunkers stimulus whereby the government is offering up to a $4500 voucher to owners of older less fuel efficient cars. Detroit is already jumping on the bandwagon with some of the largest auto makers offering to match the paid vouchers.

Isn't this a huge handout? What about the deficit? Creeping socialism! You'd think there'd be a roar heard clear around the blogosphere. Except there isn't.

The reason you're not seeing Tea Bag picket lines (besides their own drop in popularity) is that they'd have to set up shop right outside the local dealership. Yeah, that would really go over well.

Over at the Drudge report there's nary a peep of protest. Just a weak headline "What your Country can Give to You." He's too busy with the latest daily Presidential poll. Somebody should tell Drudge there are no elections in August.

Incidentally the poll Drudge sites states that only 25% of the population believe the stimulus package is helping the economy. That will probably change in the next few months. "Government can't create wealth!" is the cry of the Right. Except that it can. (They had no problem when the Army was being charged $10,000 for a toilet seat.) In this case it will probably help auto dealers more than the overall industry, but it will stimulate economic activity and at the same time cut down fuel emissions.
